Materials Engineer II

Job Description:

The main function of the materials engineer is to execute material quality management programs and evaluate material and tooling performance.


Job Responsibilities:

• Review new product plans and make recommendations for material selection based on design objectives, such as strength, weight, heat resistance, electrical conductivity, and cost.

• Develop materials and study the atomic structure of materials in order to discover new applications for their mechanical, electrical or chemical properties.

• Conduct or supervise tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure quality.

• Analyze product failure data and lab test results in order to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.

• Determine appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials.

• Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration.

• Plan and implement operations for developing material and fabrication procedures that meet cost, product specification, and performance standards.


Skills:

• Basic knowledge of metals, plastics, elastomers, polymer composites, and ceramic materials.

• Knowledge of material degradation mechanisms such as creep, corrosion, and others.

• Experience conducting failure analysis.


Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in materials science, chemical engineering, or a related field.


This is the pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position $35.92/hour - $49.73/hour
