Job Description:

The main function of a mechanical assembly technician is to build, test, and repair devices under the direction of engineering staff. A mechanical technician may also be asked to design test fixtures, conduct experiments, and set up / maintain lab equipment.


Job Responsibilities:

1. Work with product development and sustaining engineering teams to assemble, test, and validate new product designs.

2. Assemble engineering prototype devices in low/medium quantity. Devices include complex mechanical, electrical, and optical assemblies.

3. Document and maintain prototype parts inventory.

4. Perform prototype device sustaining activities, including repairs, maintenance, updates, and workflow management.

5. Design, fabricate, and assemble fixtures and other tooling for experiments and prototype assembly/test.

6. Perform laboratory experiments and document results.

7. Organize and maintain an engineering lab to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient workspace.

8. Perform DFM/DFA reviews and documentation of feedback.


Qualifications:

1. Relevant vocational training or 5+ years of experience working in an equivalent role.

2. Hands-on mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly experience. Optical and ESD sensitive component assembly and handling experience preferred.

3. Experience with hand tools (drivers, drills, files, taps) and assembling of devices.

4. Experience with high accuracy measuring devices (calipers, micrometer, dial indicator, laser, etc.).

5. Basic electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills.

6. Experience with operating reliability test equipment (such as thermal chambers) and working with reliability engineers for planning, execution, and data collection.

7. Able to work in a self-directed, hands-on manner with minimal direct supervision. Past experience working in production and/or service support environments preferred.

8. Team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.

9. Read 2D engineering drawings; knowledge of 3D geometry and 2D drafting experience preferred (e.g. NX).

10. Proficient with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).


Education/Experience:

Associate's degree in engineering technology or related field required.


This is the pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position $23.30/hour - $32.26/hour
