Apply for the Position

Job Description

The engineer will be working independently on a queue of privacy tasks that are populated by automated detectors. Your job will be to efficiently investigate each task, understand the potential privacy violation, understand the code, and determine if there is a data violation. If a violation is detected, part of your task may be to write code to mitigate the data violation or to reassign the task to the appropriate oncall for the team that owns the code.

Hack is a derivative of PHP that Meta utilizes, so having a solid understanding of advanced object-oriented features such as polymorphism and generics is needed.

Job Responsibilities

• Independently manage a queue of privacy tasks, ensuring consistent daily progress in closing out tasks, and reporting to your project tech leads if you have challenges or require assistance.

• Create new SQL queries, and to understand and edit existing SQL queries to perform your data investigations.

• Efficiently read, trace, debug and understand a complex PHP backend codebase.

• Ability to write PHP backend code in an existing code base.

Required Skills

• 3+ years of backend PHP/Hack programming.

• 4-6 years of SQL experience. Creating and modifying complicated SQL Queries.

• A solid ability to debug and track data through a call stack and understand how data is passed and if it is mutated from function to function.

• Ability to work independently and manage one’s time.

Top 3 Hard Skills

• Strong ability to write, read and understand complex backend PHP code. Developers with only frontend PHP experience typically will not pass the hiring bar.

• Solid understanding of SQL (can read, understand, and write new complicated queries). You understand beyond SELECT, FROM, WHERE. You know what joins are and when you need to use them.

• Solid Debugging skills, understands static analysis and stack tracing

Education:

• BS in Computer Science

• Certifications in PHP or SQL are nice to have, but not required.

Prior Skillset/Experience:

• Any kind of debugging-heavy role or a role that required touching large, complicated systems.

• More 'backend' experience than 'frontend' experience

• Experience understanding security and privacy violations in code is valuable.
